Researcher dissmiss Bee story
Now nobody really cares that RF may affect the bees as long as it open source, eh? Well the scientist finally responded to the article. "It's not my fault if people misinterpret our data," said Kimmel. "Ever since The Independent wrote their article, for which they never called or wrote to us, none of us have been able to do any of our work because all our time has been spent in phone calls and e-mails trying to set things straight. This is a horror story for every researcher to have your study reduced to this. Now we are trying to force things back to normal."

It turns out that the Independent misrepresented the results of the study that these folks made. It turns out that these guys were talking about a DECT base station put inside or attached outside of the hive. Those have different protocols and use different frequencies.
So continue using wi-fi, Locustworld and Trixbox, everything is AOK

As a moderate (in UK) sized beekeeper (80 colonies) I have experienced CCD the winter before last when 50% colonies were lost, this year only 5 out of the 80. I am convinced this is tied into varroa destructor as a)Not reported, in my lifetime, the catastrophic collapses of honeybee colonies before the introduction of varroa b)The timing of the spread of miticide resistant varroa mites.
Bee colonies are complex organisms and often reflect much earlier events. As an example varroa decimates fertile drone numbers so when a virgin queen goes out to mate she may not mate at all or only receive one or two drone donations (some races mate with up to 20 drones). This means she goes back to her colony as a second rate queen which may survive through the winter but 'disappears' in the spring when she is under pressure to increase her daily egg laying numbers. Other possibilities include unidentified virus(es) or fungi which become 'killers' when the colony's natural immunity is compromised by the varroa mite.
